General policies
Amada Colossos Resort is fully committed to saving energy, reducing harmful emissions and protecting the beautiful municipality of Kallithea and the rest of Rhodes.
Just as it has done throughout its storied past, Rhodes continues to feel the love of all of you who choose to visit us no matter how long your stay. Precisely because of this, we know you would like to contribute to keeping things here in the way you have always enjoyed them. To help you take a deep dive into the local culture with the right amounts of care and consideration and continue to cultivate awareness and sensitivity for this precious destination, we offer some practical information as a guide to some of the decisions you will take during your stay.
Experiences That Count
You will find plenty of small local businesses which we ask you to wholeheartedly support. They champion the best of our nature, customs, craft and hospitality, adding value and meaning as well as enjoyment to your holiday. Just ask our Guest Relations Team for a heads-up on the best ways to immerse yourself in the attractions and available activities. Independent family-run stores, local producers and traditional tavernas offer you the chance to purchase exquisite handmade products and enjoy cuisine consisting entirely of authentic regional ingredients. Read our guides on the best local food experiences and local family providers and our blog unveils hidden gems of Rhodes waiting for you to explore.
Our many archaeological sites, cultural monuments and museums housing fascinating artefacts provide an incredible insight into bygone eras for reasonable admission fees. Naturally we ask for your assistance in their preservation and
protection by refraining from flash photography when requested, avoiding direct contact with exhibits and not bringing food or drinks to exhibitions or historical landmarks. Find out more about Rhodes’ rich heritage, museums and archaeological sites here.
Wise Waste Disposal
Every landscape admired, every street walked, every corner turned brings a new story to fire your imagination. We look forward to partnering with you to retain the beauty and mystery in our environment by getting rid of rubbish in a handy bin or having the patience to wait until you find one. We ask that you use a refillable water bottle to keep the use of plastic to a minimum whenever possible. If you do end up with any plastic bottle tops, put them in our Amada dolphin near the main swimming pool. Every ton recovered from the dolphin amounts to the cost of one wheelchair.
Responsible Transport Options
Getting around the island to experience everything it has to offer can be done in an environmentally friendly way. Public transportation is one answer to limiting emissions and a bus stop is conveniently located outside the resort. (code: F20 COLOSSOS E)

25 Sustainable Steps
1.All our windowpanes and frames (an area of 2,000m²) are energy efficient.
2.Heat recovery chillers reduce energy costs of air conditioning units and hot water by up to 5 times
3.All the heating and cooling in rooms and public spaces is handled by chillers and inverter pumps, reducing energy costs by 3 times.
4.Our outside walls have been fitted with an external thermal insulation composite system.
5.All our interior walls are painted with European Eco-Label paints.
6.We use LED technology light bulbs and light strips in all light fittings around the resort, reducing energy consumption and maintenance requirements.
7.A total of 14,000 low-energy LED bulbs have been fitted around the resort.
8.In total, we’ve used 40,000m of energy-saving LED tape around the premises.
9.With reverse osmosis and nanofiltration technology, not only is the tap water in rooms and common areas drinkable, but you save CO2 emissions.
10.All rooms have been fitted with sophisticated energy management systems, so you don’t even have to worry about switching off the lights.
11.All bathrooms have been fitted with shampoo and shower gel dispensers that are made from 100% plant-based materials. Can you think of anything better to help us replace (and eliminate) the Single-Use Shower Toiletry Bottles we used to have?
12.We’ve introduced 450,000 pasta straws to replace all plastic ones for the 2019 season.
13.No more plastic dishes, glasses and cutlery are being used in any of our food & beverage outlets.
14.In all restaurants and bars, plastic cups have been replaced with polycarbonate ones that can be cleaned and reused.
15.Special messages on food waste in our Main Restaurant are showcasing ways on how we can address this common challenge together.
16.Throughout the resort, ashtrays-ballot boxes are placed in collaboration with the "Gopa project" initiative.
17.We collect recycled plastic caps to support not only the environment but also people in need of wheelchairs. A ton of bottle caps (roughly 540,000) can yield €120, which is the starting price of a wheelchair.
18.Recycle bins for a wide range of materials can be found throughout our premises.
20.All our landscaping has been done with Mediterranean plants; minimizing irrigation needs. Just take a walk around the gardens and smell the rosemary and thyme. You’ll know what we mean!
21.Utilizing rotational operation, the waterslides actively promote water conservation and safeguard the natural resources of Rhodes.
22.We support the rebirth of forests on our island. Our resort occupies 100 acres, so this is the exact size we adopt in burnt forest areas in Rhodes and we support their reforestation following expert guidance.
23.We’re proud to be flying the Blue Flag, awarded for the exceptional water quality and cleanliness of Kallithea beach. Rhodes has more coveted Blue Flagged beaches and marinas (55) than any other municipality in Greece
24.We have been awarded the internationally recognized Travelife Gold Certification for Accommodation Sustainability and three ISO accreditations, which attest to our commitment to responsible operations and sustainable practices.
25.Finally, our Green Team of volunteers organizes green-friendly actions and encourages everyone’s participation throughout the season!
